Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, will be guest speaker at Rutgers Chabad’s commemoration of the terrorist attack on his country. The free program will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 at Chabad House in New Brunswick.
Danon is former chair of the World Likud, was on the Jewish Agency for Israel Board of Governors and was a member of Zionist Executive of the World Zionist Organization and chair of the World Betar Executive.
He was a Knesset member where he served as deputy speaker and chaired several committees. Danon also served as Deputy Minister of Defense for two years before being appointed Minister of Science, Technology, and Space, serving until his appointment in 2015 as ambassador to the U.N.

The Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County in Edison will honor Israelis killed, the survivors and those being held hostage by Hamas in a program on Monday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. It will feature Danielle Cohen Schrager, associate director for New Jersey of the American Jewish Committee, a guest speaker from the Israeli Consulate in New York and a performance by Kol Haylayla, Rutgers Hillel’s a cappella group. There will also be a display by Israeli photojournalist Erez Kaganovitz, “Humans of October7,” depicting the human stories of unique Israelis who stood up to terrorism.
The program is being co-sponsored by Congregation Neve Shalom, Temple Emanu-El, the American Jewish Committee-NJ and the Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey.

Yair Ansbacher, a counterterrorism officer and IDF reservist, will be guest at a commemoration for the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Congregation Ohav Emeth in Highland Park. He was among the first fighters to arrive at the Gaza border after the Hamas strike and he and his comrades were assigned the difficult task of freeing Kibbutz Nir Yitzchak.
A military and security expert and consultant, educator and author, Ansbacher founder and first director of the “Eitan” pre-military preparatory school in Mishor Adumim, Israel. He is a Fellow at the Misgav Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy. Ansbacher is a regular commentator on the Israeli news.

A candlelight vigil will be held in Highland Park at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 by Central New Jersey Stands with Israel, a longstanding grassroots community organization supporting Israel, to honor the approximately 1,500 Israelis killed or taken hostage by Hamas. The gathering will take place along Raritan Ave at the site of the former Sunoco station. Those attending are asked to bring flags, hostage lawn and homemade signs, hats, shirts, dog tags and pins. It will feature community members speaking and provide an opportunity for the members to provide comfort on the anniversary of the attack on Israel.
Since that time the group has been providing ways for the community to show its solidarity with Israel, hosting empty Shabbat tables, lighting of menorahs at Hanukah in the hostages’ honor and will be sponsoring a billboard in the borough. For more information contact the group at
