RPRY Middle School students recently participated in an Erev Rosh Hashanah “Tashlich Turnaround” program with the goals of preparing students for Yom Tov, encouraging personal growth, and creating a spirit in the Middle School that will carry them throughout the year.
Students took advantage of the beautiful weather to go on a walk to a nearby stream where students learned about the significance of saying Tashlich on Rosh Hashanah by the water. After reviewing some of the classic answers, students learned about Rabbi Akiva’s life changing experience at the age of 40 which was inspired by drops of water forming a hole in a rock. Like Rabbi Akiva, students realized that step by step, and drop by drop, we can make changes in our lives.
Students were encouraged to write down a “Tashlich Turnaround” commitment in their take home Tashlich cards that they used on Rosh Hashanah and used as a reminder and preparation before Yom Kippur.
