North Brunswick couple, Howard and Carol Rossman, celebrated their second Bar and Bat Mitzvahs at Anshe Emeth Temple in New Brunswick. Rabbi Philip Bazeley and Cantor Mark Stanton led the ceremony.
A second B’nai Mitzvot is celebrated 70 years after the first at 83 because it is said that the biblical lifespan was 70 years.
After growing up and attending school together in Passaic, NJ they married and had four sons: Matthew; Jordan; Mark; and Judd. All four had been Bar Mitzvahed at Anshe Emeth Temple. At the ceremony, the seven grandchildren had the honor of presenting tallitot to their grandparents. They included the names of everyone in the family honoring the concept L’dor V’dor “from generation to generation.”
Family friend, Rabbi Bennett Miller, a former rabbi at the synagogue attended the service and North Brunswick Mayor Womack presented a proclamation. Senator Cory Booker sent the couple a flag that was flown over the capitol in their honor. A celebratory summer barbecue preceded the ceremony and an Oneg Shabbat was had by all after the services.
