The Metro-Jersey Section of National Council of Jewish Women presented “America’s songwriter Irving Berlin: From Ragtime to the Golden Age of Broadway Musicals” featuring former Miami TV talk show host Jerry Berke on Sunday, April 27 at the Middlesex County JCC on Oak Tree Road in Edison.
Mr. Berlin’s story is fascinating, beginning with his family’s escape from Imperial Russia at the age of five. Unable to read or write music, he amassed a catalog of 1500 songs from “The Yiddishe Professor” to “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” to “There’s No Business Like Show Business.” Jerry Berke covered Berlin’s 60 years of Broadway and film hits while playing rare audio clips and singing some of his favorites. Light refreshments were served.
